Why the cloud?

…we hear many times a day about cloud services for consumers and businesses. Today worldwide, staggering amounts of datais generated, accessed, and analyzed in real time from any device from anywhere, yes even from outer space! The average user generates 1.7 MB of data each day comparing to a computer built in early 1980s had a 5 MB hard drive! The advent of the cloud will allow the world today to generate, access and analyze real time data from anywhere on any device.

Ah, the good old days…

The cloud is not as new as anyone might think in relative terms as in technology history. The idea of webmail: Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail, etc. are essentially a cloud service for email. Music, gaming (consoles) and file sharing sites have been around since the late eighties on a very small scale using crude communication methods compared to today but essentially, they are a cloud.

Some other examples:

  • Sharing experiences from a fishing trip in Middle Tennessee on social media

  • A Nashville EMS onsite saving a life after getting real-time and critical information

  • Checking the security cameras on a mobile device in real-time at a Music Row, Nashville studio

These are every day real examples of how the cloud can be cost-effective and securely manage real-time data.

Does anyone miss storing these?

The cloud also has many benefits for the consumer and businesses:

Large cloud companies like Google, Amazon (AWS), Microsoft (Azure), and many others offer excellent customizable cloud services on a very secure platform. The cloud when accessed with a secure connection can be a great deterrent against cybersecurity threats, especially ransomware!

Let a representative of CCI in the Greater Nashville area advise on all the aspects and benefits of the cloud.
